Hairway To Steven (1LP)

The Butthole Surfers' last album, originally released in April 1988 on independent Touch and Go, is a best of both worlds transitional work that blends the irreverence of their early years with the more focused approach of their major label days.

Epic opener "Jimi" is twelve minutes of primal drumming, distorted vocals, Sabbath riffs, and related oddness. "Hairway to Steven's" title is a play on Led Zeppelin's popular song, "Stairway to Heaven." Some of its tracks also make allusions to other famous musicians, such as Julio Iglesias.
